Competition Robotics Club Policy
1. Purpose
This policy outlines the expectations, responsibilities, and conditions of participation in the First Step Robotics Competition Robotics Club for young people aged 8–16 years.
The Competition Club prepares students for structured robotics and STEM competitions.
Participation requires commitment, accountability, teamwork, and adherence to this policy.
2. Application Process
All applications must be completed and submitted by a parent or legal guardian.
Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Submission of an application does not automatically guarantee placement on a competition team.
Team selection will be confirmed once formal preparation for a competition cycle begins.
Placement is subject to:

◦Commitment level
◦Behaviour and engagement standards
◦Available capacity
3. Attendance & Commitment
Competition requires consistent attendance and active participation.
Members are expected to:
- Attend scheduled training sessions regularly.
- Inform the organisation in advance if unable to attend.
- Complete assigned team tasks within agreed timeframes.
- Contribute constructively to team discussions and design processes.
Non-Compliance
A member may be removed from the competition team if they:
- Fail to attend sessions without prior notification.
- Repeatedly fail to complete assigned team tasks.
- Demonstrate behaviour that disrupts team progress.
- Do not meet agreed commitment standards.
Removal decisions will be made in the best interest of the team and competition preparation.
4. Fundraising Responsibilities
Participation in robotics competitions incurs operational costs, including but not limited to:
- Registration fees
- Equipment and replacement parts
- Travel and venue costs
- Training materials
- All competition team members are expected to:
- Actively participate in organised fundraising activities.
- Support sponsorship initiatives where appropriate.
- Contribute to collective efforts that reduce financial barriers for the team.
Fundraising is considered an integral part of the learning experience, supporting responsibility, leadership, and real-world project management skills.
5. Competition Fees
First Step Robotics CIC aims to maintain accessibility and affordability.
However, it may become necessary to charge a participation fee to cover essential competition-related costs.
Where applicable:
- Fees will be communicated clearly and in advance.
- Payment deadlines will be provided.
- Failure to meet payment requirements without prior agreement may result in withdrawal from the competition team.
6. Code of Conduct
All members must:
- Show respect to teammates, mentors, and volunteers.
- Handle equipment responsibly.
- Follow safety instructions at all times.
- Uphold the reputation of First Step Robotics CIC during events and public engagements.

8. Policy Agreement
By joining the Competition Robotics Club:
- The parent/guardian agrees to the terms outlined in this policy.
- The student agrees to meet the attendance, conduct, and fundraising expectations.
- Both acknowledge that competition participation requires commitment beyond regular workshops.
